A Guide On How To Hire Or Become A New Nanny/ Baby Sitter
Whether you are a Nanny looking for the right position or you are looking for a Nanny, it can be done with success! There are more working families these days that are willing to pay top dollar to have someone reliable to come and help raise their children. There is a thing called Nanny Agency and they can make the move smooth and even teach you a few techniques that will make sure you have the right match. If you are looking for a nanny position, you can go through an agency, look in your local paper or sometimes find perspective families even online.
You first need to make sure whether you are clear about what you want. Such as, how many children and what ages do you feel you are comfortable with? What hours, days and pay level are you hoping for? Make sure you have several trustworthy references of past successful child care positions. Be willing to provide all personal information such as Social Security Card, Birth Certificate and Driver’s License. Also, be ready to fill out and sign a Criminal Background form or Child Abuse forms, which are required by many states.
Then, dress properly and be on time for your first meeting with the family. The family in search of a nanny needs to really protect themselves to assure they are getting quality and safe childcare by first requesting a meeting away from the home with the children absent. Make sure you get the correct ID’s and forms filled out and make sure by all means that you follow up on them and thoroughly investigate all the information and references. There were times when a “mommy’s instinct” worked well, but nowadays you really do not want to take a chance when it comes to bringing a stranger in to help raise your family.
You need to be careful always and check people out whether you are looking at household staffing company or even senior care placement. After you meet that person and feel that you have got the right one, then it is time to introduce them to your children and other household members to make sure there is a good connection with all involved. You will also want to be particular about what you expect from them. This would include what hours and days you need them and how much you are ready to pay, what about sick days or holidays? Be clear about your viewpoint of discipline, TV privileges and eating habits of your children or any health issues.
You need to be clear in what you expect and if this person cannot agree to your wishes then they are obviously not going to fit in with your family. Once you have the right person make sure you treat them well, give raises to them on a yearly basis, gifts on Holidays or Birthdays and welcome them with open arms!
Nanny Tax/ChildcareTax Credit Quesiton?
I’m a live in nanny. My employer, a family member, used my social security number to get a childcare tax credit. She pays me $4800 a year, which includes what I pay her for room and board. An accountant prepared her taxes. Did she pay the nanny tax towards SSDI, medicaid, and unemployment Insurance? She doesn’t seem to know. Thank-you!
Oh, she got the childcare tax credit. And I just got off the phone with the IRS- I don’t have to file anything as I didn’t make enough money.
You should know, because you need to file a return for the money earned as a nanny. Even if you have no tax liability, you likely qualify for Earned Income Credit. If you did not receive a W2, ask for it and show her this link. She also should have a SCH H as part of her return. It reports household employee info. I think your family member is not being totally truthful.
