I had never been to Jamaica before, but my expectations were high. I had often heard about how fun Jamaica is, and about the beauty of the island. In fact, it has long been considered the ultimate vacation destination for honeymooners and couples in love. So when I stepped off the plane I expected to be wowed. Well, I wasn’t disappointed!

I had come to Jamaica to attend the wedding of my best friend at Beaches in Negril. For those unfamiliar with the Beaches chain, it is the sister chain to the world-famous Sandals. As with Sandals, it is billed as the ultimate all-inclusive resort, but unlike Sandals, which is for couples only, Beaches caters to families. And it does so in a big way! Our Jamaican experience started from the moment we picked up our luggage. We were ushered to a lounge specifically reserved for guests of the Beaches resort, and the best part? The local Red Stripe beer on tap! For adults only, of course. For children there is an equally exciting soda bar.

The approximately 2 hour bus ride to the resort was like an excursion in and of itself, and would be a fabulous experience for children. You are taken through several small towns, and depending on the time of week and day, you might spot children walking home from school in their pressed uniforms or locals wandering the narrow streets of their town. Once at the resort, after being directed to our rooms and freshening up, we wandered around to see the sights. Not only was there tons of food, whether at the fresh-air buffet restaurant or the poolside snack bar, but the activities for children were boundless.

From the giant chess set to the banana boat rides, snorkeling or scuba diving (and lessons too, for those new to the exciting world of diving), all activities were included in the cost of staying at the resort. And the best part? There were two fabulous water slides and a lazy river, working together as a great little mini-water park! Now come on parents, don’t be shy. There were as many adults as kids utilizing these fun attractions, myself included! If your little ones somehow manage to get tired of the many attractions available at the resort, for additional cost excursions throughout Jamaica are available. One such excursion not to be missed? Climbing up Dunn’s River Falls. It is the ultimate experience for adults and children alike. Just be prepared, the Falls are several hours away by bus.

Looking for some time alone with your loved one? Beaches has certified trained nannies on hand to care for your little ones and give you a little peace and quiet. As for older children, you will have a tough time tearing them away from the water slides, teen disco or game area!

So if you are looking for the perfect family vacation destination, consider Jamaica and all that Beaches has to offer. If fun in the sun and relaxation are your goal, you won’t be disappointed.
